Faux chipboard embellishments

This is CAS class, Day 3 (where is day 2?...good question! I guess we'll be doing this out of order. LOL!)
I love the idea of making my own chipboard pieces, which is very simple to do with punches or die cuts. I made the focal point on this card by cutting the doily multiple times and adhearing them to one another; however, I didn't want the full size so I snipped away some of the layers and got this flowery element you see in the center of the card. There is no way I would be able to use foam adhesive on such an intricately cut design but this is another way to get the popped-up effect.

The Paper Doily Sizzlits die is a new item in the SU! Occassions mini. I'm loving it! The entire cut is approximately 4 inches; however, but I didn't need the large size on this card. So, I snipped away some of the layers and as a result I got a nice flower shape.

You will definitely be seeing more from this die! The other elements are from punches. I used the Blossom Triple Layer punch for the mid-sized flower which also cuts the outline image, and a flower from the Itty Bitty Punch pack. This was one quick card. The sentiment is heat embossed in white. Super quick!

One layer cards. I love the look of them.

They are wonderful in gift sets because I can totally understand how those that don't have the passion for cardmaking would not appreciate having to put extra postage on an envelope because the card inside just "had to have that extra embellishment for the wow factor"!

So, I decided to take the Clean & Simple Carkmaking Class to give me more ideas of how I can do this. I'm having a lot of fun. It is definitely a learned skill. If you are used to using lots of layers and embellishments, simple is just not as easy as simple sounds.

This is my card from day 1. It is one layer (well, almost). I used a mask to hold a blank space while I random stamped over the card base. Then I went back and traced the box with a white gel pen and added three small punched flowers and a sentiment. Very quick. Only slightly painful. I wish I had used bright colors. The pink cardstock was already on my bar so that is what I went with. I will definitely be doing more of these!

Happy Monday!

Can't believe it has been a week already! I've actually been crafting... a LOT! but I just haven't gotten anything posted (obviously). I've had so much creative energy lately that I decided I would sign up for a couple of online papercrafting classes just to help keep the juices flowing. I will get some of those projects posted this week. But for now, I want to show you what I did with this week's Mojo Monday sketch. This idea came to mind as soon as I saw the sketch. I love working from sketches!

And, speaking of juices...doesn't the sound of scented embossing powder make your mouth start to water? Well, if you could smell my room right now...YUM-MMMY! I used the vanilla on this project and let's just say I am so thankful we don't have any cupcakes in our house 'cause that is what it smells like...my favorite vanilla cupcakes! I've been using this over the past week and my girls just love the aroma it leaves in the room. I think I will go ahead and try out the other flavors that I purchased along with this one even though I'm sure this will be my favorite.

And, the best thing about it is that it is clear. So, you can stamp your image in whatever color pallet you choose and then go back over with Versamark and layer the embossing powder on top. How fun is this card, inspired by the DSP? Are you diggin' my Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder ice cream cone? And look, I couldn't choose a favorite color of the new Baker's Twine so I had to get them all.

I have to say that this Occasions Mini is my favorite by far! I love everything in it.

In other creative adventures this past weekend I made a Harry Potter cloak for my wee one. She has only recently joined gotten interested in the series. Last Christmas (2010) we went to Universal Studio's and she wasn't too interested (nothing like her older sister) in HP. In fact, she probably skipped that section of the park altogether and not been disappointed. However, something sparked her interest this fall (probably the fact that she has it the magical HP age) and she is devouring the books. Our rule is that our girls have to read the books before they can see the movies. So, Ryleigh is now half way into book 4 and loving them! I finally decided to read the series too, after my older daughter's persistence. I started at the same time as Ryleigh. I am just about to start book 3. So I have to sneak through the living room when they are watching because I'm only allowed to watch the first and second movies! LOL! Sam is almost finished with the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. I think she wants to read the Hunger Games series next. I think I'm going to need to pre-read that one so I better hurry. I've been told it is okay for a young teenager but....

Speaking of books, I just finished reading The Help and my dear and I watched the movie this weekend. What a great book! I'm sure he hates watching movies with me when I've read the book because I constantly feel the need to tell him what he is missing out not having read the whole story. Ha! He is such a patient man! The movie was good, but I felt like some vital info was left out of the movie that added depth to the characters. Isn't that always how it is? That is why I have to read a book before I can watch the movie. So next on my list is HP3 - Prisoner of Azkaban and When the Wind Blows by James Patterson which is the book that inspired his Maximum Ride Series (but this one wasn't written for the teen audience). Unless of course I pick up the Hunger Games....I'll start it. However, I've been known to have 2-3 books going at the same time.

Happy Tuesday! Well, maybe not so happy in my house.

We start back to school today :(
My Dear had to return to work :(
We have almost eaten through our left overs so I have to actually cook dinner tonight :(

But, I managed to make another sneak peak card. I used the Mojo Monday 222 sketch for this one. I just LOVE sketches and they always have a great one. So looking forward to participating in more this year.

I needed a masculine birthday card this week so I turned to the Well Worn DSP collection. I always struggle with masculine cards but this collection is perfect for just that. I almost put a little blue bling on it but I resisted and dug through my old stash and found a metal embellishment that matched.
